Los Angeles Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Are your upper eye lids droopy or saggy, making you look older than you truly feel?  Perhaps you have developed loose, baggy skin underneath your eyes that perpetually make you look tired or older than you are ready to admit.  Even in the City of Angeles, where wearing sunglasses indoors may sometimes even seem acceptable, this is far from a perfect solution.  Thus, many seek Los Angeles blepharoplasty procedures as a way to address one’s tired eyelid concerns.

The skin around the eye stretches and causes the skin in that area to sag and become baggy as people age.  Blepharoplasty, more commonly referred as upper or lower eyelid surgery, is a procedure which removes fat, skin, and muscle around the eye for a more youthful appearance. It can not, however, remove crow’s feet or dark circles as these require different treatments.  Fraxel laser is popular treatment for crow’s feet, and does not require surgery, although this laser treatment may not be suitable for everyone or every case. Certain injections may be recommended by your physician as treatment for dark circles.  Good candidates for blepharoplasty, or any cosmetic surgery for that matter, are men and women in good physical and psychological health. Most patients tend to be over the age of 35, but some patients may be younger if their issues with sagging or droopy eyes are hereditary. There is no “right” age for treatment.  However, over time as one ages, skin loses elasticity, and a good surgeon will take this into account when treating you for your desired procedure.

Sometimes only fat needs to be removed from the lower lid and in this instance, your surgeon will make an incision inside of your lower lid to remove the fat pocket.  If skin needs to be removed from your upper and/or lower eye, your surgeon will follow the natural creases of your eye which typically leaves minimal scarring; usually a fine white line that appears to be nearly invisible. You should expect blurred vision and temporary swelling for a couple of days. You may also experience asymmetry or scarring as a minor complication.  Most likely, you will most likely experience minimal bruising and swelling for about 7-10 days, but you will need to refrain from any strenuous activity for 3-4 weeks.  For either an upper or lower eyelid surgery, costs typically start around $5,000 to $8,000 depending on the complexity of the case, and will increase if both the upper and lower eye area require surgical enhancements.
