Los Angeles Breast Augmentation
When one thinks of the California lifestyle, one often thinks of revealingly clothed, buxom young women. While women in bathing suits biking down Santa Monica Pier is an everyday occurrence, no one is quite sure when large breasts became associated with beauty and sex appeal. A breast augmentation can indeed increase a women’s self esteem if she feels she has a disproportionate body type. Also, some women just feel sexier with larger breasts. For consumers looking for a Los Angeles breast augmentation, they have many, many choices of physicians to select from. Los Angeles is filled with highly skilled plastic surgeons specializing in breast augmentation as well as those who boast of their skills without necessarily having taken formal training courses and/or offering cut-rate prices to lure unsuspecting patients.
In November 2006 the Food and Drug Administration approved the reintroduction of silicone breast implants into the US market. After this decision, there are now three available implant options for first time breast augmentation candidates -- saline, silicone, and cohesive silicone “gummy bear” gel implants. Saline is the most commonly used implant type, but women tend to feel that they do not look or feel as natural as silicone. Silicone implants are preferred 9 times out of 10 in Europe. In exchange for this “naturalness”, silicone implants typically run about $1,000 more than saline. A patient will also pay physician cost, anesthesia cost, and operating room fees. The “gummy bear” implant may offer the best compromise for those concerned about possible silicone leakage, yet desire a more natural feel. It is important to keep in mind that these “gummy bear” implants typically are more expensive that silicone, requires a slightly larger incision, and do not work on all body types. Only a handful of surgeons in the United States are currently able to offer silicone cohesive gel implants.
Another important breast augmentation decision to consider is the placement of the incision. The most common placement is under the breast. This option allows the doctor to have the most control over the placement of the implant in the chest cavity. The scar is about a couple of inches long and is well hidden right under the breast. Some patients might decide to have the incision under the arm if they do not wish to have a scar under the breast. This incision will leave a scar under the armpit. This selection also means your surgeon is that much farther away from your chest cavity when placing the implant. For a woman who is interested in minimal scarring, she may choose to have the incision around the nipple. This is a popular technique, although it can leave the woman with reduced nipple sensation. The last option is the TUBA procedure where a surgeon will make an incision through a woman’s navel and guide the implant up to the chest cavity. Many top surgeons choose not to use this technique because of the potential complications. Navel entry can lead to poor placement of the implants and cannot be used if the patient chooses silicone implants. It is important to speak with your physician regarding his or her recommendations for type of implant and incision area.
In 2007, the average surgeon fee for breast augmentation in the United States was $3,500. Obviously, location and experience will play a role in the surgeon fees. This fee does not include anesthesiology, hospital fees, or medications which typically double the costs. One of the most important decision for a woman to make is what physician she chooses to perform the procedure. It is always important to do proper research and background checks on potential surgeons.
