Los Angeles Liposuction
Liposuction is still among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the United States. With national statistics indicating over 60% of the adult US population is overweight, local residents seeking Los Angeles liposuction are not too different, and this procedure is likely to remain a very popular cosmetic procedure for many years to come. Liposuction is the process of removing fatty deposits from underneath the skin. It can be performed on males or females almost anywhere on the body or face. Candidates for liposuction include individuals from anywhere in their late teens to early 60’s. An ideal candidate for liposuction is someone who has been unable to rid themselves of unwanted fat in certain areas even after proper diet and exercise. One should realize that liposuction is not a permanent fix and a person can regain the fat back if they do not properly look after their body. It is also not an answer to obesity, and it is recommended that a person be at a healthy weight for at least 6-12 months before considering surgery.
There are many different techniques of liposuction. Traditional liposuction is a technique involving a thin, hollow metal rod with suction capability. This technique is the most widely used and has been around since the early 70’s. This approach typically requires more blood loss, but since it has been around for quite some time, most physicians are very familiar with it and it’s results. There is not a lot of high-tech equipment involved so it often costs less than other forms.
Ultrasonic liposuction uses the suctioning of traditional liposuction along with high frequency waves to lessen blood loss. This technique was first introduced into the United States in the 90’s. Tumescent fluid is injected into the fat and ultrasonic waves are used to liquefy the fat so that suctioning is gentler on the surrounding tissues. This method is less abrasive than the traditional method, but can take more time resulting in a slightly higher cost. There is also an increased chance of burning near the skin due to the ultrasound. The incision entry is typically larger than that involved with the traditional method.
External Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuctionis the newest method of liposuction. It was introduced into the United States in the late 90’s. This process offers less blood loss, swelling and discomfort. It also offers a decreased risk of burns and pain following surgery. Considering it is so new, some physicians are unsure of the long term results and fear this approach because of that.
With any method of liposuction, you can expect to be down for about one to two weeks. One should refrain from strenuous activity for about a month after the procedure. Obviously, bruising and swelling will occur and can last anywhere from one month to six months. Each area of liposuction treatment generally costs several thousand dollars. However, as the number of treatment areas increase, the costs associated with each additional area come down. All of these liposuction techniques have their risks and benefits. It is important to find a qualified physician to perform the procedure and get his opinion on what option is right for you.
