Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as nose reshaping or nose job, can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip.  Rhinoplasty is sometimes performed on patients with a deviated septum or other breathing problems.  In this situation, insurance will often cover the costs of most if not all of the procedure. W hile rhinoplasty can enhance one’s facial features, it is important to have realistic expectations and be physically and mentally healthy before undergoing surgery.

Rhinoplasty can be performed inside the nose or in an “open” procedure.  Which procedure is used depends on what corrections need to be made and your surgeon’s preference.  A procedure performed through the nostrils leaves no scarring and “open” procedure leaves minimal signs of surgery.  In either instance, your doctor should go over all of your options and explain why they are choosing their method of incision.

The nose reshaping itself takes about one or two hours depending on the complexity of specific procedure. Costs generally range from $6,000 to $10,000+.  Keep in mind the prominent position one’s nose occupies, and given the intricacies of nasal surgery where a few millimeters may affect your facial appearance, you are highly encouraged to work a skilled surgeon to maximize the likelihood of your safety and satisfaction. There are certain risks involved with the surgery including infection, reaction to anesthesia, nosebleeds, and broken blood vessels around the nose which usually fade but may be permanent. Reshaping the nose is unpredictable and even with the most skilled surgeon may require a second nose job surgery, which happens about 20% of the time and is usually minor.  For more information, please contact an Advisor at MCSA.
